They no longer regard Bihar as a tourist place but, as a travel blogger, I am here to introduce you to one of Bihar’s most historic places—Thawe, a temple dedicated to the idol of Goddess Durga. The beauty it possesses and the pious aura it emanates are truly worth experiencing.

Thawe Mandir, the Temple of Maa Thawewali is situated in Thawe, in Gopalganj District in the State of Bihar, India.

About the temple

You must have heard about the Kamakhya Temple, and similarly, Thawe Temple has historical relevance related to it. Thawe Temple has multiple names; it can also be called the Temple of Maa Thawewali. However, there are other names, and each has its own legend. There are 52 “Shakti Peethas” all over India, and this place is also like a “Shaktipitha.” It is said that Maa has arrived here from her other holy place, Kamrup, Assam, where she is well-known as “Maa Kamakhya,” on the prayer of her great devotee “Shree Rahshu Bhagat Ji.” Maa is also known as “Singhasini Devi” and “Rahshu Bhawani.

About village

the village, there is an old fort, but the history of the fort is obscure. The King of Hathwa had a palace there but it is now in a decadent state. Close by the residence of the Hathwa Raja, there is an old temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. Within the enclosure of the temple, there is a peculiar tree, the botanical family of which has not yet been identified. The tree has grown up like the cross. Various legends are prevalent in connection with the idol and the tree. A big fair is annually held in the month of Chaitra (March-April).

Apart from this, there are multiple stalls selling items needed for worshipping the goddess. These stalls look beautiful, and the prasad they offer tastes truly extraordinary.
